Strategy for winning the war and obtaining some peace: PR and repatriation.
Below is a video of Tsafrir Ronen (he passed away late last year just after Operation Cast Lead began) explaining that only the Israeli army can destroy over 20 Jewish villages, referring to the now eliminated Jewish settlements in Gaza, Israel.
In it, he refers to this piece:
“The Palestinian people does not exist. The creation of a Palestinian state is only a means for continuing our struggle against the state of Israel for our Arab unity. In reality today there is no difference between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese. Only for political and tactical reasons do we speak today about the existence of a Palestinian people, since Arab national interests demand that we posit the existence of a distinct ‘Palestinian people’ to oppose Zionism.”
– Zahir Muhsein, PLO executive committee member, in an interview with the Dutch newspaper “Trouw,” March 31, 1977
To me, the war will be half-won when Palestinians wishing to return to their native homelands are able to do so. This can be achieved with good PR at giving voice and focus to such Palestinians wanting to leave: even those who have been caught in the cross-fires of many conflicts.
Additionally, the difficult living conditions in the now occupied Israeli territories which divert so many resources to war with Israel are obvious. Since a life outside of the Israeli territories called Palestine would likely be much better, the outward trickle of Arabs could turn into a stream. Only Jihadists will remain, albeit some onlookers.
Israel can insist from its surrounding nations that they accept such Arabs or face destabilization.
